NOTES

  1. Ales was buried 31st March 1646 - burial recorded as "m/o of John". Could she also have been a widow? And who was her oldest son?
  2. She was presumably the daughter-in-law Alice Bell mentioned in Annas McIllrea's 1603 will and so her husband was Thomas who died in 1619
  3. Son Ffinloe married Elin Stoell. They had two daughters in the 1630s - Katherine (married Thomas Quaile 1654) and Jane who died 1658. Ellin died 1643 and Ffinloe 1650
  4. A Hugh McIlrea died in 1648 in Malew - almost certainly another son of Ales. He had a wife possibly Margaret Stoele and siblings John, Thomas, Issable
  5. Son Thomas is probably the Thomas Mylrea who married Isabel (als ??). They had children Thomas, John, Martin & Isabel around the 1630s
  6. Son John died in 1654, leaving his wife Ellin Bell and son Thomas. Ellin's 1682 will identifies a daughter Catherine
  7. The marriages of Ales's children suggest that they were born 1600-1610s
  8. Her legacy to grandchild, Jane Bridson, could be an indication that another of her children was Margaret (Marriot) Bridson als Marillrea who died in 1643
  9. There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
